The impact of Covid-19 for a colombian girl.

I wanted to start this blog telling my direct experience with Covid-19 and finishing how i found this disease affects the entire world and will be affecting for a while, and how this subject will become a part of our life and our conversations in a long time.

More than a year ago, i can say that i was living the best time of my life, i moved to Medellin again because i stopped studying one semester and i came back to Cartagena, my natal city. When i moved to Medellin again, i started to go to the university again, i was really thrilled to see my friends after a long time, i started to go to the gym, i was also studying Portuguese, everything was going well. Suddenly, i hear about some virus that was killing people in China, but i remember thinking "Crazy but thanks God Colombia is pretty far away from that" . Then many things happened, many classes were canceled and the university decided to make a stop and gave us one month of "vacation" thanks to this virus that anyone knew about, we actually were really happy because we weren't aware of the actual situation. Then, my mom told me that i should come back to Cartagena, at least for that month because the best thing to do was to be with my family, i though she was crazy, but after much insistence of her part, i bought a ticket for Cartagena and i went, some days later, we were putting on a total quarantine.

The world was changing, Colombia was facing the pandemic like any another country, many people were sick, and many people were dying, we couldn't do normal stuff, like going out to the streets, talk to people and everything was uncertain. I want to say that i'm lucky to have the commodities that i have, that i could spend the whole quarantine with my family, that we never had big economic problems, that we are and at that time also were healthy and united, but the situation wasn't like that for everyone.

Many people were living the worst time of their lives, they were facing domestic violence, economic and healthy issues, among others.

When it comes to this problem in a global scale, we went through an accelerated deterioration of the economy, Colombia for example, to be able to combat this problem and with the quarantine measure, many commercial activities stopped, many business went bankrupt and our economy was only in decline, also our per capita income contracted and many people were pushed to extreme poverty.

Another important factor that caused this pandemic worldwide was the closure of schools and universities, where it led this educational entities in the obligation to search for new alternatives where these classes could continue be taught. On a personal level, virtuality it's not my favorite activity, but i have been able to do it in a satisfactory way since i have the necessary resources, but million of people in the world and in my country, unfortunately, don't have the same lucky as me, virtuality has been difficult, many people can't access to a computer, or a good internet or simply a quiet place to study, since not all of us have the same luck in our homes.

So, this pandemic has had a big impact in many aspects as i mentioned before, it has caused a lot of reflection in me, and i know that in a lot of people too, we have to reevaluate what are the important things in life, what are we doing wrong as a country, and we have learn a lot of the management of this virus and the challenges still growing for many countries, where many have been able to emerge afloat but others only go from misery after misery. Colombia must reconsider as a country how we are managing our resources, how we have been managing health and the deterioration that we present in this matter, and us as a persons should think how we can be better, and be aware that the most important thing in life is the interaction between us and how this is changing forever due to the pandemic.
